Personally, I believe there is considerable scope to diminish bureaucratic local government friction in the development management process by simple deletion of planning application requirements and lets face it taking stuff away is about the only easy thing that can be done in govt. Radical requirement reduction could be too politically contentious though. I do believe that COVID demonstrated that local and central government can act swiftly and in a coordinated manner when given sufficient stimulus. It would be encouraging to consider that the same drive could be applied towards reducing legislative burdens that was seen by increased restrictions during the COVID pandemic with no agreement on reduction however I can’t see it happening.

With regard to government I think there is an Overton window movement away from legislation and towards lighter governance driven in part by America and Argentina – In particular if Argentina economy can be seen to be able to improve.
