Permitted Development for Electricity Undertakings

For electricity utility providers a signfiicant amount of their projects will be carried out using statutory undertaker permitted development rights rather than full planning permission.

AI continues to improve at pace and I asked AI to investigate permitted development rights for Electricity Undertakings. I double checked it against the PD rights legislation and it appears to be accurate. In Particular here is the start of Class 40 Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Scotland) Order 1992 as amended, the legislative text, which corresponds nicely to the subdivision in the produced flow diagram. There are still some slight eccentricties for instance there are two colours for the PD classification – I think those could be amalgamated. What is particularly nice is that it goes on to summarise the Electricity Act of 1989 going some way to consolidate the legislation into one location. For professionals in the field this kind of investigative work is really great for building up knowledge and clarity of requirements for planning purposes. The more I use these tools the more I believe that nearly everyone will start to have a wider remit in the tasks that they tackle.
